So close and yet so far.

No medal for me, but this was my "Personal Best". I'm actually pretty proud that I got this far on a sweater in 17 days time. I decided shortly after starting that I was going to resist the temptation to neglect my real priorities in life in order to complete this challange. (That in itself was a challange for me. I'm pretty competitive and don't like to lose a challange...even one I've set for myself.)
So, even though my Klaralund is not complete, it will be soon, and I don't have any guilt over time misspent.
I really like this pattern, but I'm not impressed AT ALL with the quality of the yarn. The colors are gorgeous, but the yarn itself is pitiful. I have had multiple knots in every skein, as well as many places so thin that I have to cut the yarn and start over with a thicker spot. I'm really wondering how this stuff got to be so popular!
As I said, though, the pattern is a great and simple one. I knit the body in the round, as I saw no need for having to sew 2 extra seams.
I think I'll let my daughter knit this pattern for her first sweater since it's so simple.
With perfect timing to cheer me up, I received a package full of great goodies from my Secret Pal on Saturday. I'll have pictures to share soon! Thank you secret pal!

KNITTING OLYMPICS & LOVED SOCK YARN

This yarn is unloved no more!
My husband's comment was "You lucked out!". It's black and white Opal, a brand that I've always wanted to try; and Lion Brand self striping yarn. Thanks sock pal, and Thanks Beth for hostessing!

My Knitting Olympics news:

This is what my Olympic sweater looked like this morning. It's the Klaralund that I bought yarn for at the beach. I've been a bit concerned about whether or not I'll be able to pull this off. For two days I had a bit of pain in my wrists, which I thought was very odd. The longest I've been able to sit and knit at one time has been 2 hours in the evening. I've done that many times, so why am I hurting now???
I considered dropping out, because I want to still be able to pick up my baby! I took yestday off from knitting, and this morning it felt better, so I'll forge on ahead.
I have more to update, but since it's Valentine's, I'm heading off to be with my sweetie!

Finished Jaywalkers

Thursday, February 09, 2006

Arrgh! NO photos again!

I didn't realize that my webhosting had expired,so I have to wait for my payment to process before I can upload my pics...and just when I had something exciting to share!
I've FINISHED MY JAYWALKERS!!! And I actually love them. This is probably just because it's the first pair of handknit socks that I've kept for myself. The ribbing could be tighter, and the yarn is only so-so, but I still love them!

My other update is that I've decided to do the knitting olympics! I needed to make sure we wouldn't be moving during the 2 wolumpics before I committed, but since we're now sure that the move won't happen that quickly, I'm all signed up. I'm going to be knitting the Klaralund that I bought yarn for during my beach trip.

Wanna hear my sob story while I have no pics?
We've been remodeling a house for over 2 years now. It's one that we purchased from my stepfather. A 1950's ranch. As we could see the end drawing near, we put our house on the market. We got an offer on it on the first of December, but the house needed to close by Dec 30th. (My baby was due on Dec 27!) We did a move, had a baby, and had Christmas all within a 2 week time frame. And since our new house wasn't finished yet, we had to move into an extended stay hotel while we wait for completion. So, here we sit, waiting for the house to be done enough to move into. We've passed our first 2 inspections, but there have been so many delays over and over. We thought we'd be in by the first of Feb. Now we're hoping for the first of March!
I'll post before and after pics of the house when I can access pictures again. It's pretty exciting!
